The accommodations at Hatchet Lake Lodge take first-time guests by surprise. Here you are, in as deep a wilderness as you've ever experienced, yet you find yourself in the lap of luxury.
Lodge
Perched on a private island, the lodge is a magnificent three-level log structure with a commanding view of Hatchet Lake. There you'll find the dining room, lounge, game area, bar, tackle shop, kitchen and exercise room.
Fitness
A fully equipped exercise facility can be found in Cabin 15, which is just off the boardwalk. Convenient access makes it easy to stay fit while you’re at the lodge. If you would rather take a brisk walk or a longer hike, a system of sand trails crisscrosses the island. And for post-workout or fishing relaxation, we have a professional massage therapist on staff.
Cabins
Our guest cabins are painstakingly crafted by Cree and Dene builders from hand-peeled locally harvested logs, offering the rustic beauty of a traditional cabin with all the comforts of modern five-star hospitality.
High efficiency wood burning stoves in each cabin burn all night on one filling of wood. It has been our custom for many years to quietly check your fire on cool mornings before you get out of bed, so you can rise to the wonderful warmth of a natural fire.
Dining
Deep in the Canadian wilderness, civilization is alive and well at the tables at Hatchet Lake Lodge. In fact, we've had guests tell us they'd come for the food alone!
Your breakfast might include a mug of steaming hot coffee, eggs, bacon, sausage, French toast or pancakes, and a hearty bowl of our signature Red River Cereal.
Dinner is a bit more formal, with beautifully prepared meats, vegetables, breads and desserts, served family style on white tablecloths. We offer full bar service and we'll be happy to accommodate any special dietary requirements you may have.
At mid-day, of course, you will be enjoying an unforgettable Hatchet Lake ritual… a delicious shore lunch!

Hatchet Lake Lodge is rich with traditions that set it apart and make your time with us memorable.
Catch and release: Alarmed by the plummeting fish population in his native Scotland, owner George Fleming instituted a catch and release policy in 1976. This has ensured an exceptional fishing experience for our guests, with larger fish being caught each year.
Native culture: Over the years George and our guests have cultivated a close relationship with our native guides, who enrich us by sharing their heritage and skills.
The pipes: In a nod to George's Scottish heritage, the lilt of a bagpipe greets you dockside upon arrival, and calls you to breakfast and dinner each day.
Private airstrip: Very few northern lodges offer the luxury of an airstrip like ours, which allows private pilots to fly in for a Hatchet Lake experience.
Service: Daily maid service, a massage therapist on staff, coffee delivered fresh and hot to you each morning, a blazing fire when you return to your cabin on chilly days at Hatchet Lake you can relax and enjoy being pampered in the wilderness.
